International Denunciation from the National Indigenous Congress – Indigenous Governing Council of Mexico for the Attempted Eviction of the House of the People of Mexico

To human rights organizations.
To the media.
We denounce that for a few hours a large contingent of grenadiers from the government of Mexico City has been trying to violently evict the Otomí Indigenous Community residing in Mexico City from the “Samir Flores Soberanes” House of Peoples (formerly the central building of the National Institute of Indigenous Peoples), including defenseless children, women and the elderly.
We remember that this space has been “recovered “ by the Otomí Community for three years, demanding housing and a set of basic rights, demands in the face of which the government has maintained a shameful silence.
Three years after the takeover of the INPI, this is the government’s response towards its comrades, this is the State’s policy towards the indigenous peoples.
We call on organizations and groups in solidarity with the struggles of the CNI and the indigenous peoples to not leave the Otomí Indigenous Community alone at this time.
We demand the Mexico City and federal governments to stop this violent eviction.
